Dr. Angela Benson is passionate about Global Health having graduated from the A.M. Dogliotti Medical
College, University of Liberia with a degree in doctor of Medicine in 1978 and did a post-graduate training in
Child Health at National University of Ireland, Dublin in 1986 followed by an International’s degree in Public
Health at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Hadassah, Israel with specialization in Maternal and Child
Health (MCH) in 1990 . Dr. Benson has vast experience in the Health sector management and health
system strengthening having worked in the Public Health sector, the Private Health sector and the United
Nations Organizations of UNICEF and WHO for several years.
Dr. Benson was the Foundation Manager for the Flagship Ministry of Health’s Program (Fixed Amount
Reimbursement Allowance-FARA) supported by USAID. She provided technical, managerial and
administrative oversight in 2012. She joined the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS).as
Asst. Secretary General in 2013 and later became the Secretary General with the Executive Members
provided oversight for the training and service of residents. She was instrumental in the successful
graduation/induction of the first cohort of 13 Medical Specialists trained in Liberia. She served in WHO and
rose from the post of an epidemiologist to become a WHO Representative in Lesotho, Southern Africa and
later as WHO Africa’s Regional Adviser on Emergency and Humanitarian Action, where she provided
technical advice and guidance on critical Health issues to National Governments in WHO African Region.
She an Examiner of the West African College of Physicians (WACP) with focus on Post-graduate
qualifications for Membership and Fellowship in Community Medicine since 2016.
Dr Angela Benson co-founded the Global Health Innovations and Action Foundation (GHIA Foundation), an
International Non- Governmental Organization with the Focus of helping to reduce disease burden among
women and children with a mission of ensuring that women live healthier and longer lives by providing
Technical support to National Governments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
She is a member of several National and International Professional and service Organizations including
the AFREHealth Consortium, Public Health Association, Fellow of the Liberia College of Physicians &
Surgeons (FLCPS), Fellow of the West African College of Physician (FWACP) and Member of the Liberia
Medical and Dental Association (LMDA) She has co-author and published Medical Articles and Chapters in
the Situation Analysis of the Health of Women and Children in Liberia; The Investment Plan of Building a
Resilient Health System in Liberia , Post-Ebola (2015 -2021). She is a 15+ years member of Rotary
International , a service Organization and has served as President in Lesotho, President at the Rotary Club
of Sinkor, Liberia and currently a Technical Cadre of the Rotary Foundation.
She is married to Dr. Jimi O. Benson, a Family Physician and they have three adult children, several
fostered children and four grand-children. Dr. Angela Benson is a born-again Christian who fears the Lord
and keeps Him as Lord and Master of her life living an exemplary life in her community of Paynesville,
Liberia.
